West Virginia’s registered nurse population must increase by 21% over the next decade to keep up with the demand of services. Doctors and nurses are in high demand in rural areas of the state as well. Registered nurse salaries range from $55,000 to $59,000 in the larger cities of Charleston, Huntington and Parkersburg.

The largest health care employers in the state are Ruby Day Surgery Center in Morgantown with 6,700 employees. Charleston Area Medical Center employs 4,200 while St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington employs 2,200.United Hospital Center in Bridgeport employs 1,800 and Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling employs 1,500. Four other hospitals around the state employ between 1,100 and 1,450.
